120 credits, of which 90 credits including a Bachelor's thesis in one linguistic subject, alternatively a Bachelor's degree in a linguistic subject or admission to the Master's programme in Swedish
The course aims to provide broadened and deepened knowledge of the various fields of sociolinguistics. Contemporary language situations are studied primarily, but diachronic perspectives are also included. The course addresses key concepts, theories, and methods within different areas of sociolinguistics. The interaction between social and linguistic change is examined, with attention to gender‑related and regional aspects, and with a particular focus on the Nordic context. In consultation with the examiner, participants select a recent doctoral dissertation or another scholarly text within the course’s subject areas for specialized study.
