The course provides advanced knowledge in literacy, both from a didactic and a linguistic point of view. You immerse yourself in theories about literacy and learn about the history of the concept and different meanings and interpretations of literacy. The course is based on a definition of literacy as participation in and co-creation of social practices, where text is included in different ways. It also includes attitudes and values linked to these practices. You learn more about different conditions for literacy in individuals of different ages and with linguistic and social backgrounds. You carry out advanced analyzes of second language speakers' literacy development and discuss didactic theories that promote literacy. You also learn more about how literacy can affect participation in text communities and social contexts.
