A total of 120 credits in medical and/or public health studies, religious studies, historical-philosophical studies, social sciences, or law, including an independent thesis worth at least 15 credits. All applicants need to verify English language proficiency equivalent to the course English 6 in the Swedish secondary school.
This course provides an in-depth understanding of the complex relationship between gender-based violence and migration. It focuses on the structural factors that influence both migration and violence, such as global inequality, patriarchal structures, and racism. Drawing on various theoretical perspectives, the course will examine migration, gender, and violence in different migration contexts. The course aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of different theoretical approaches used to analyze the violence that women with a migrant background face. Additionally, the course seeks to enhance your ability to independently, objectively, and critically examine various contexts of gender-based violence in relation to migration. Examination will be based on an individual written case study, which will also be orally presented during the final seminar. Participation in the seminars is mandatory. Outline for the course: The course will be conducted in English, online, during daytime hours. All lectures and seminars will be held via Zoom. Participation in seminars, as well as completion of written and oral assignments, is compulsory. To participate in the course, you will need a computer with internet access, a web camera, and a headset.
