What is the role of mathematics in society? What are ethical and philosophical aspects that can arise when doing research in mathematics or when applying mathematics to real-world problems? How have these aspects developed over time and how do they influence how mathematics is taught today? After some introductory lectures, the main part of the course will consist of project work in which you investigate one particular aspect of the topic in more detail and present it orally and in a written report.
