This course is a natural continuation of Lie groups and focuses on the development of the algebraic counterpart of the theory. The course covers basic structure and representation theory of finite-dimensional Lie algebras, including the classification of simple Lie algebras using root systems, arguably, one of the most beautiful results of the 19th century. A must for all algebraically oriented students.
