Computational chemistry can both generate new predictive information and provide deep, detailed insight across virtually all areas of chemistry. This course introduces electronic-structure methods for molecules and condensed-matter systems (solids, surfaces, and liquids), with an emphasis on applications in energy storage and conversion. Topics include electronic structure from bonds to bands, geometric structure, energetics, vibrational properties, multiscale models, and machine-learning-based surrogate models.
