120 credits in science/engineering with 60 credits chemistry including 10 credits in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
The course covers different chemical principles that can be used to design, synthesise and develop macromolecules and soft materials for real-life applications. This course provides a foundation for basic and advanced aspects of polymer synthesis, characterisation, understanding of reaction mechanisms, and a qualitative molecular understanding of the resulting supra/macromolecular structures formed by these polymers. From the course you will obtain a molecular understanding of the macroscopic properties of soft materials and their design principles, constituting a firm base for the design and synthesis of soft materials for applications such as regenerative medicine or energy storage materials, using synthetic and natural polymers.
