Geographical information systems (GIS) and satellite-borne remote sensing is an important tool in many areas of earth science and other disciplines that work with spatial data. The course covers the theory of spatial analysis, modelling and visualisation using remote sensing and GIS, focusing on earth science applications. A significant portion of the course is devoted to computer-based applications in order to provide insight into the opportunities and limitations in the use of GIS and remote sensing in physical geography, hydrology and geology.
